Mexico & Central America:

God Is At Work! Let’s Join Him!

Guatemala: Approximately 500,000 to 1 million Kekchi (kek-CHEE) people, descendents of the Mayan Indians, live in the remote interior of Guatemala’s Verapaz & Peten departments. From the 1960’s with about 20,000 believers, to the 1980’s, when the number of believers tripled, believers numbered over 60,000 (CPM, p130).

El Salvador: The Elim Christian Mission, led by Sergio Solorzano, has 116,000 people attending 5,300 cell groups. Each Sunday morning the church rented 600 city buses to transport members to worship (CPM, p129).

Past & Current Initiatives:

Hispanic leaders from 17 different countries participated in our NCS training in Latin America, November 1-5, 2005. This was held in Puebla, Mexico. NCS also delivered church multiplication training on January 24-28, 2006 at the 7th Missions Conference for the Eglesia Wesleyana De Costa Rica. Our training was delivered in two locations, in San Jose and in Gofito, Costa Rica. All of our New Church University training materials have now been translated into Spanish and national Hispanic leaders from the Church of the Nazarene, Salvation Army, Wesleyan and Free Methodist denominations have teamed together to perfect the contextualizing process.

Missionary field personnel have been in contact with NCS to explore the possibilities of using our New Church University training materials that are now translated into Spanish. The book, “Falling in Love with the Church” has also now been translated into Spanish. NCS Senior Consultants have gone on Work & Witness trips and introduced the ministry of NCS to Mexico & Central America. Our vision is to take members of our NCU Hispanic Presentation Team from the U.S. and deliver Hispanic training in select Mexico & Central America locations. We look forward to the expansion of future training opportunities in Mexico & Central America as time and resources permit.
