Organic Church News

Connections Launches its first Organic Church in McKinney Texas.

It was simple, it was reproducible, it was fun, it was challenging, it was relational, it was satisfying to the taste buds, it impacted the neighbors, it impacted Asia, it included the children, it was organic, it was……………… Church!

Dinner, conversation, football, Christmas gifts, and rest, sounds like a great social event – we called it church as we gathered for the first time preparing to kick off the New Year as a new missionary outpost to our neighborhood.

  • Dinner was much like New Testament communion where we broke bread together and shared how Christ filled our Christmas.
  • Conversation was much like New Testament teaching as the priesthood of believers discussed together who God is and what he is calling us to in our community and how that will look as we become the church in our neighborhood.
  • Football, well that was a great time of watching as relationships and spiritual lives are challenged by the poor playing of the favored team.  It was also a great time of nurturing relationships as we learn to enjoy one another in our neighborhood.
  • Christmas gifts was an exciting time of seeing 7 adults and 6 children raise $720.00 on the spot during half time to buy Christmas animals for families in Asia and be able to share with our children the beauty of a gift given that will change a life.
  • Rest – that happened as we relaxed and enjoyed the day God had made without rush, hurry and stress filled expectations.  We gathered at 12:00 and the community stayed until after 5 pm, wondering if this is what Sabbath rest could look like on what is typically a stressful, hectic and busy Sunday.

Sounds like the church in action.  Sounds like McKinney’s new organic Church of the Nazarene called Connections.

Many will say, “That doesn’t sound like church to me”.  Others will say, “What about the singing?” and others will say, “What about Sunday school”? But my unchurched neighbor said, “Thank you”.

The Word will be foundational, living it out in Relationships will be daily, and living it out in ministry and reproduction will be non-negotiable.

Great days ahead as we step out on faith and take a risk for God and begin to multiply his church filled with disciples who can multiply his church across our nation and around the world.
